At the GenAISummit on November 2, 2024, Daniel Svonava, CEO of Superlinked, joined Charles Xie from Zilliz and Jobi George from Weaviate for a lively discussion on “The Future of Vector DB.”
‍
Daniel shared some fascinating insights, starting with the surprising fact that only about 0.1% of enterprise data is currently vectorized—meaning there’s a massive untapped opportunity out there. He highlighted how vision-capable models are transforming e-commerce and document search, and broke down cost-saving strategies like flash storage and quantization to make these systems more accessible.
One of Daniel’s key points was the growing importance of handling multimodal data—combining text, images, and more—to push AI applications even further. Despite the recent buzz around vector databases, he believes their long-term potential is still hugely underestimated and predicts some “killer applications” will emerge in the next few years.
